Department of Mechanical Engineering

Of the many engineering disciplines Mechanical Engineering is the broadest engineering profession is established in the year 2010 with an intake of 60 students. The department is houred in a separate building with well-equipped class rooms, laboratories, machine shop and workshop. The department derives its excellence from a team of sincere, talented and dedicated faculty members and also from well trained and experienced non-teaching staff. Faculty not only teaching to the syllabus, but also teach beyond the syllabus. Apart from regular teaching, the department conducts special classes for academically weaker students. Mechanical engineering department also encourage, motivate and sponsor the faculty and students to participate in events such as competition for technical paper presentations, sports, seminar, workshop etc., To feel practically the environment, machines and other equipments, working condition and nature of the workers of an organization or an industry, Mechanical engineering department arrange an industrial visit to the students once in a semester. Pre-final students will undergo a special training program for personality development and to improve personal skills to face the competitive world.

Laboratory Facilities

The following laboratories are part of the Mechanical Engineering Department.

Workshop

Students of all branches in the first year undergo training in workshop wherein they are trained regarding the use of basic tools, measuring instruments, and metal joining process such as welding , soldering, brazing etc.

CAD Laboratory

All the first year students are trained regarding the usage of the software " SOLID EDGE ST2" which will help them to draw any component drawing , assembly drawing , civil drawing etc., in their higher semester.

Foundry And Forging Laboratory

Mechanical engineering students will undergo training in preparation of green sand mould for casting purpose. Also, the students will be trained to forge the red hot mild steel to the required shape. These processes have applications in railway industries, automobile industries, ship manufacturing industries etc.

Metallography And Material Testing Laboratory

Mechanical engineering students will be trained in this lab to study the different phase structure of different materials by using metallurgical microscope and conduct experiments to study the different properties, behavior and strength of different materials. These properties and strength of different materials are very important from the design point of view.

Machine shop

Students from mechanical engineering department will be given training to operate and maintain different machine tools. During training, students will perform different operations on different machines to get the desired shape. These operations are common and very important in manufacturing industries.

Mechanical Measurement & Metrology Laboratory

Students of mechanical engineering branch will undergo hands on training in calibrating the measuring instruments and in make use of the instruments for linier and angular measurement and also measurement of surface roughness, screw thread parameter, gear tooth profile etc.

Energy Conversion Engineering Laboratory

Energy conversion engineering has been one of the central themes in the development of the engineering profession.

In this lab the performance tests on I.C.Engines, such as four stroke diesel engine, four stroke petrol engine, and multi cylinder diesel/petrol engine are conducted. Students will learn about the performance of these engines & also to determine the calorific value of solid, liquid & gaseous fuels & viscosity of lubricating oils.

Heat & Mass Transfer Laboratory

Heat & mass transfer places major emphasis on gaining information to illustrate & reinforce concepts covered in the lecture.

In this lab, students will conduct the performance tests on Refrigeration & Air-conditioner & also will learn to determine the thermal conductivity of metal rod, heat transfer co-efficient in a pipe & vertical tube & conduct the experiments on boiling of liquid & condensation of vapor. This lab is helpful for the students to get a realistic & practical experience in heat & mass transfer.

Computer Aided Modeling And Analysis Laboratory

Modeling & Analysis is one of the major aspects in the field of engineering design.

In this lab students will learn about the Finite Element Analysis package & stress analysis of the bars, trusses, beams & also about the thermal analysis & dynamic analysis of the beams which is helpful to solve several difficult engineering calculations that are carried out as a part of the design process.
