Virtual and Augmented Reality

This course will introduce to virtual reality. The course provides an insight to the history and hardware to different applications, the psychology and the challenges.

The idea is put forward, based on the experience of a large number of experimental studies that contribute to this realistic response. There will be two stages, first is ‘being there’, often called ‘presence’, the qualia of having a sensation of being in a real place.

Importance

The basics of 3D graphics is to create objects and how to lay them out to create an environment like materials and texturing that make objects appear realistic. Also to learn about audio techniques to ensure the experiences of sound as well as look. In all of these topics we will pay attention to the particular requirements of virtual reality, including pitfalls and performance issues: making sure the environment runs fast enough in VR. All this is learnt using the professional game and VR engine, Unity 3D etc.

Challenges

The course is designed for people who are new to VR as a medium. A learner with no previous experience in virtual reality and/or game programming will be able to evaluate existing VR applications, design, test, and implement their own VR experiences/games using unity by the end of the specialization.
